IV. Stages

The functions a body performs in a world.

If all events can be described as
things happening,
bodies would be the things
compelled to happen.

Of course, bodies would be a
downstream consequence
of force in this abstract world.
I’d maintain that force
would be the thing
that happens.

So, where does that leave bodies?
Do they cause anything at all?
Tricky question,
due to its imprecision
and how obvious an answer to it can be.

I believe they would interact.
They’d coincide with each other.
Convene with each other.
They’d fit, shape, fold, blend, and carry,
all at once.
At the same time.
Conversely, they can collide,
which can be seen as causal.
But even this may just be the internal movements
of a larger body: some constellation.

Numerous different things can happen
when bodies end up together.
All this wondrous life. All these
colors,
in motion.
In all kinds of ways.

And yet,
I see myself
and all things
affected
by movement in similar ways.
This is where I make another set of divisions.
Ones that surround
the metabolism
of bodies.

Compared to domains,
stages are vertical.
They reflect the tendency of force
to throttle, enter, warp, and exit
back out
unto itself.
